Hi Denis
Thanks for that interesting article, which has now explained the Taggart mystery to me - I've only watched a couple of episodes and couldn't understand why it was called 'Taggart'!

I think that the recent Robin Hood series suffered from the way TV production people think that huge amounts of action and resolution in the last 5 minutes of the show are a good substitute for a good plot. Unfortunately many people disagree on this, myself included, and would rather see a series with good stories, less violence, slightly more realistic stunts and not necessarily resolved in one episode (whatever happened to suspense?). The result is 'samey' episodes and even my son, who at first enjoyed RH, became bored and didn't bother watching.

During the day, the C7 town-Histon is pretty much OK. It can be a quick journey and buses do arrive fairly frequently. But during the rush hour it's incredibly unpredictable. I'd allow an hour or more, now, if I'm going to the train station to catch a train between 8 and 9, and I'll be ready to call a cab if the bus hasn't arrived promptly. The unpredictability is both arrival of buses in Histon, and the time taken to get into town - in the rush hours Histon road can be almost stationary and the bus is slower than cars because of the stops. On a bad day, the bus is late, and the stops have huge queues trying to board, which fills the bus and takes ages.

I feel a lot of the poor predictability of the buses is due to the long route; once things get bad somewhere in town, the whole loop cottenham-duxford stalls, and there is rarely a procedure to feed new buses in to get things fixed.

I'm very glad that most of the time I can use a bike but I'm aware that the bus service is very difficult to commute on if you need to travel to work at a "normal" time and this is really rather poor. It must be possible to do better. I used to commute on the bus to the city centre; when my job moved out to another side of town, meaning I would have either 2 bus journeys or bus then a long walk, the lack of reliability made bussing to work impossible.

Buses once an hour into the evening every night are essential. However I know that compared to other Cambridge necklace villages we have an amazingly good service.

As a resident at the South end of the village, I would love to use Impington PO more. But things such as undelivered mail are always returned to Histon PO. This guarantees that Impington gets less trade.

It would be a loss to the village if the second PO was to close.
